Will let you know whether anything pans out. It sounds like it did something to the hard drive... Didn't help that I never did manage to find my floppy disk for the drivers. The method you use to restore the system will depend on what backup utility you used, so you'll need to follow the utility's instructions on how to perform a restore operation.
